Restrict who can open a playlist by country
Limit a shared playlist so it only opens for listeners in the countries you choose. A privacy and security control on Pro and Business plans.
Geo-fencing lets you limit a shared playlist so it only opens for listeners in the countries you choose. Anyone opening the link from outside your list sees a friendly "Not available in your region" page instead of the player. It sits alongside your other privacy controls, like password, PIN, email lock, view limits and expiry.
Turning it on
- Open the playlist you want to protect and go to its Privacy & Security settings.
- Find Restrict by country.
- Add one or more countries. Use the quick presets (United States, UK & Ireland, European Union) or search for any country by name.
- Your choice saves automatically. Remove a country at any time with the x on its chip, or clear the list to open the playlist up again.
Leave the list empty and the playlist stays open to listeners anywhere, exactly as before.
How the location is worked out
A listener's country is worked out from their internet connection at the moment they open the link. This is reliable at the country level, which is why the control works by country rather than by city or region.
Good to know
- It is a country-level control. You choose which countries can open the link, not cities or regions.
- Genuine listeners are never blocked by mistake. If a listener's country cannot be determined, they are allowed through, so a gap in the lookup never locks out someone you meant to reach.
- It is a strong deterrent, not a vault. Because location is based on the internet connection, a determined listener using a VPN could appear to be somewhere else. Use it to keep honest listeners in the right place, and add a password, PIN or email lock when you need a harder gate.
- Available on Pro and Business. The control appears in the Privacy & Security section on those plans.
