What happens when a payment fails

It depends whether it's your first charge after a trial or a renewal for an existing subscription.

A failed payment is usually a card issue and is quick to put right. What you'll see depends on your situation.

Your first payment after a trial

If your first charge when the trial ends doesn't go through, your access pauses and we'll ask you to add a working card. As soon as a valid payment goes through, you're back in.

A renewal for an existing subscription

If you're already a paying customer and a renewal payment fails, we don't cut you off straight away. Your card provider and our payment system automatically retry over the following days, and most payments recover on their own. To clear it sooner, update your card in your billing portal.

Putting it right

In both cases the fix is the same: open your billing and make sure there's a valid card on file. See Add or update your payment card.
